A 2-minute guide. You’ll need to be an Admin on the account.
HELP HUB > ADD ME TO GOOGLE ANALYTICS
QUICK START
Email to add: [email protected]COPY
Permission: Editor
Where: analytics.google.com → Admin → Property access management
Google Analytics tells us who’s visiting your website, where they came from, what pages they look at, and whether they do the things you want them to do (book a call, sign up, buy something). I need access so I can read the data and use it to make decisions about your marketing.
“Editor” access lets me read all your data and adjust the way it’s tracked. It does not let me add or remove other users, that stays with you. I can’t see or change anything else in your Google account.
You can remove my access at any time, the same way you added it.
STEP 01
Head to analytics.google.com and sign in. If you have more than one Google account, double-check you’re signed into the right one, the one where your website’s analytics live.
STEP 02
Look in the bottom-left corner of the screen. You’ll see a small gear icon labelled Admin. Click it.
STEP 03
On the Admin page you’ll see two columns: Account on the left, Property on the right. Look in the Property column and click “Property access management”.
QUICK NOTE
Don’t click “Account access management” by mistake. That one gives access to every property under the account, which is more than I need.
STEP 04
In the top-right corner of the list, click the blue + button and choose “Add users” from the dropdown.
STEP 05
Paste in [email protected]. Under “Direct roles and data restrictions”, tick the box next to Editor. Leave “Notify new users by email” ticked so I know to expect access.
STEP 06
It’s in the top-right corner. That’s it: you’re done. I’ll get an email confirming access and I’ll let you know everything’s working within one business day.
Most likely you’re signed into a different Google account than the one connected to your analytics. Click your profile photo in the top-right and switch accounts.
This usually means you don’t have Administrator access on the account. Whoever set Google Analytics up originally will be the Admin, it might be a previous developer or agency. If you’re not sure who, drop me a line and we’ll work it out together.
Same root cause as above, you need Administrator role on the property to grant access. Find the person who originally set it up, or send me an email and we’ll sort it.
