How to add me to your Search Console

A 2-minute guide. You’ll need to be an Owner on the property.

HELP HUB > ADD ME TO GOOGLE SEARCH CONSOLE

QUICK START

Email to add: [email protected]COPY

Permission: Owner (or Full user, see below)

Where: search.google.com/search-console → Settings → Users and permissions

Search Console is the tool Google gives us to see how your website is performing in search results. Which keywords you’re ranking for, how often you’re being clicked, and whether there are any technical issues stopping Google from properly understanding your site. I need access to read this data and act on it.

Search Console has two main permission levels: Owner and Full user. Owner is the one I’ll usually ask for, it lets me verify settings, submit sitemaps, and request indexing of new pages, which are all things I’ll do regularly. Full user can read everything but can’t change settings. Either works; Owner is faster for us both.

You can remove my access at any time from the same screen you added it.

STEP 01

Open Search Console

Head to search.google.com/search-console and sign in. If you manage more than one website, make sure you’ve selected the right property from the dropdown in the top-left.

STEP 02

Click "Settings"

In the left-hand menu, scroll down. Settings is near the bottom with a gear icon next to it.

STEP 03

Click "Users and permissions"

You’ll see a list of settings, pick “Users and permissions”. This shows you everyone who currently has access.

STEP 04

Click "Add user"

Top-right of the user list. It’s a blue button.

STEP 05

Paste my email and choose "Owner"

Paste in [email protected]. From the Permission dropdown, choose Owner (or Full if you’d prefer, both work).

STEP 06

Click "Add"

That’s it. I’ll get an email confirming access. I’ll be in touch within one business day to confirm everything’s working on my end.

Something not working?

It might not be set up yet. Have a look at the “Set up Google Search Console” guide, or send me an email and I’ll check whether it’s been done under a different account.
You’re likely signed in as a Full or Restricted user rather than an Owner. Only Owners can add other users. Find the person who originally verified the site (it’s often a developer or hosting provider) and ask them to make you an Owner first, or drop me a line.
That’s really common. The cleanest path is to add a new verification under your own Google account, which gives you Owner status. The Google Search Console setup guide walks you through this. Or send me an email and I can talk you through it in five minutes.
Done?

I've added you: what now?

I’ll get an email confirming access and verify everything’s working within one business day. Then we can dig into the search data together.
